Hear from some of our Magnet nurses who go the extra mile to ensure best practices and the highest level of patient care.
"I value teamwork."
Clinical Nurse III, Hand and Foot Center Joined HSS in 2002
I’ve worked for the Hand and Foot Center since it first opened in 2009. You could say we’ve grown together. It’s an opportunity to work with world renowned orthopedic surgeons and have the supportive team around me I need to develop. I’ve always been ambitious and keen to take the lead - and for that have been recognized for my achievements. Since working at HSS, I’ve received the Nursing Excellence Award and the Patient Safety Award, but my number one priority is my patients; it takes a team to ensure they’re well cared for.
"It’s a different culture than anywhere else."

Nurse Coordinator, Pre-Operative Unit Joined HSS in 2010
It was my mom who got me into nursing, but it was the HSS Nurse Residency Program that turned me into the professional I am today. From classroom education to hands-on learning, those six months gave me everything I needed to thrive at HSS. That includes being part of a team where everyone is working to be their best, all the time. When I tell people I work at HSS they can’t quite believe it – and I feel the same! It’s just such an impressive place. I’m really amazed with the progress I’ve made and how much I love working here - getting paid is like an added benefit!
"You can learn as much as you want."
Clinical Nurse II, Operating Room Joined HSS in 2009
I’ve been passionate about working in the OR ever since I saw an eight-hour open-heart surgery during my clinical rounds in nursing school. I was a bit skeptical about orthopedic surgery and thought it might be limited, but a six-month residency program at HSS really opened my eyes. I’ve been here ever since. It’s a fast-paced environment but you’re surrounded by people who have your best interest in mind. And everyone is working towards the same goal. I am with patients right before their surgeries, when they are stressed and may even be having second thoughts. It’s my job to reassure them they’re in safe hands.
“I’m proud to be part of our great reputation.”
Patient Care Director, Inpatient Nursing Joined HSS in 2009
From the day I joined the Nurse Residency Program at HSS, I could feel the sense of family – and I knew it was the right place for me. Now, I’m creating that same support system for my team of nurses in the Step Down and Orthopedic Special Care Units. It’s rewarding to work with compassionate, dedicated people who share a common commitment to providing exceptional care. And when we get letters and emails from patients going out of their way to thank us, it validates our efforts and inspires us to exceed patients’ expectations in delivering the highest standard of care.
