Radiofrequency Ablation for Back and Neck Pain

Kenneth Lutz

In 2009, I could barely walk a quarter of a mile without having to sit down for a few minutes rest. An HSS physiatrist gave me a few spinal epidural injections and also relieved arthritis of the sacroiliac with radiofrequency ablation. Keeping a regular program of physical therapy that she prescribed, I have been free of pain for the past 7 or 8 years and have resumed an active lifestyle. For the past few years, my son and I have climbed to the top of Mt. Monadnock in southern New Hampshire.

June 20, 2023:

Two months after receiving his latest epidural for lumbar spinal stenosis, 80-year-old Kenneth Lutz climbed to the top of Mt. Monadnock in New Hampshire. We started the climb at 1375 feet above sea level, and we reached the summit at 3165 feet. The round-trip hike was 4.3 miles. In the photo, he is shown on the right next to his son and grandson.
