Our Specialties

Foot and Ankle

Complex, constantly impacted, rugged, yet intricately balanced, feet and ankles are some of the most frequently injured areas of the body. HSS leads a multidisciplinary approach to properly diagnosis your condition and provide an effective treatment plan.

Hand & Upper Extremity

The bones, nerves, joints, and muscles of the hands, wrist, forearm, elbow, and shoulder are critical to nearly every activity of daily living. When injury or disease threatens their viability, overall quality of life is at risk as well. Hospital for Special Surgery’s Hand Service is world-renowned for treating children and adults suffering from all bone and soft-tissue conditions of the hand and upper extremity.

Joint Replacement

Physicians at HSS pioneered the first modern knee replacement that was used worldwide in 1974. Today, surgeons in the Adult Reconstruction & Joint Replacement (ARJR) Division continue to lead the field in both innovation and number of hip and knee replacement surgeries performed each year.

Neurology

HSS neurologists are board-certified with additional training in neurophysiology, neuromuscular disease, and movement disorders. Testing and evaluation of the spinal cord and nerves provide a comprehensive view of neurological conditions and their treatments.

Pain Management

Pain from a lingering sports injury, a hip or knee replacement surgery, a traumatic event, or a chronic condition can take a toll on your quality of life. Our multifaceted approach to pain management at HSS puts the patient first and focuses on personalizing your care and achieving the best solution.

Pediatric Orthopedics

HSS treats thousands of infants, children, and adolescents each year. At HSS Paramus, we provide diagnosis and treatment of conditions like scoliosis, limb length discrepancies, clubfoot, hip dysplasia, and fractures.

Physiatry

The physiatrists at HSS specialize in nonsurgical treatments of spinal and sports-related injuries, as well as diagnostic studies to determine whether patients have nerve or muscular disorders such as lumbar or cervical radiculopathy, carpal tunnel syndrome, and other debilitating conditions.

Rheumatology

More than 40 million Americans are afflicted by systemic autoimmune diseases like lupus and scleroderma, arthritis and osteoporosis. Our physicians and clinicians work to identify the latest medical advancements and treatments to better serve our patients.

Spine

At HSS, you have the world’s best clinical team at your side with more experience in complex spine surgery than any other hospital in the world. We are committed to researching and advancing techniques to be less invasive and produce safer and longer lasting results.

Sports Medicine

HSS is committed to providing a broad continuum of care to the athlete from the initial consultation to any surgical or nonsurgical treatment, and finally, rehabilitation. HSS Paramus sports medicine physicians focus on personalized treatments and physical therapy to get you back into the game.

How You Move Video Series

‘How You Move’ matches area high school student athletes with local HSS caregivers to discuss performance and injury prevention.

Services at this Center

Performance Services

HSS Performance incorporates specialists in exercise physiology and sports nutrition to work closely to gauge your potential, understand your goals and design a customized, safe program. Services include performance training, nutrition, and return to play testing.

Physician Office Visits

Whether it is a first-time injury or a chronic condition, HSS expert physicians and surgeons employ the most advanced techniques to establish a precise diagnosis and treatment plan. Noninvasive care such as casting, bracing, and physical therapy, as well as minimally invasive treatments are available for your recovery.

Physical Therapy and Hand Therapy

Our physical and occupational therapists provide services to address injuries and pain in the hand, wrist and elbow, the low back and neck, sports injuries and general orthopedic pain. Performance services include running analysis involving 2D video analysis. Patients have direct access to therapists without a physician prescription.

Radiology and Imaging / MRI

Our unparalleled imaging technologies and expertise means an accurate diagnosis for you.

  • All HSS MRIs use high-spatial resolution and thin-slice imaging. These state-of-the-art techniques (not always available at other healthcare providers) helps HSS make a definitive diagnosis for any orthopedic condition, with special attention paid to the health of the cartilage, labrum and other soft tissues.
  • All MRI exams are interpreted by radiologists with additional specialty training in musculoskeletal imaging. Because of this focused expertise, HSS radiologists are frequently consulted by other doctors around the world.
  • Our high-resolution MRI exams do not require invasive intra-articular gadolinium contrast.
  • Traditional MRIs can be distorted by the natural magnetism present in some metallic medical implants. To address this, in patients who already have a joint replacement or other prosthesis, HSS uses a specialized scanning platform called MAVRIC (multi-acquisition variable-resonance image combination) to obtain an accurate reading.
  • HSS has devised modified MRI pulse sequences to detect cartilage damage in its early stages. This means that you may benefit from early intervention that could postpone or eliminate the need for surgery.
