ACL Tear (Torn ACL)

Amanda Meschi

I tore my ACL and meniscus while playing volleyball my junior year of High School. I was devastated that I would miss my senior season of high school volleyball and terrified as I thought my athletic career was over and no college coaches would want me. I saw a couple different doctors, but decided to go to Dr. Fabricant, who recommended ACL reconstruction with a bone-patellar tendon-bone graft. The first few months post-op were very challenging mentally as I watched the muscle atrophy take away what I had spent all my life building as well as my teammates play the sport I loved. But I was determined to not give up and I continued with my recruitment process, and unlike what I thought, coaches weren't fazed about my injury. I toured schools whilst still on crutches, and committed to play collegiate volleyball before I could start walking again. There were a lot of unknowns with how fast I would be able to get back on the court, but I knew I was going to do everything I could (safely of course) to get back. When the 9 month mark came, I was able to start easing my way back on the court. It took a couple months to get the rust off, but now I am over a year post-op, and about to go to school and play my first season of collegiate volleyball. I am playing and feeling better than I thought was possible, and am so excited for the rest of my athletic career. None of this would have been possible without Dr. Fabricant, so thank you.
