A bad ski accident landed me 20 yards in the woods off the trail. X-rays and an MRI revealed a seriously broken humerus, with the head broken into at least 5 pieces and rotated 180 degrees. I was lucky to be alive.

I visited a well-respected orthopedist who advised that the injury might be irreparable, and that a shoulder replacement could be my only option. At 45 years old, everyone acknowledged that would be a bad outcome. Friends and family advised I reach out to HSS, and I was fortunate to meet Dr. Helfet, an expert in complex orthopedic repairs. In our meeting Dr. Helfet reviewed my tests and simply said "we're going to fix it".

And indeed he did. A year after surgery and I'm almost back to 100%, living my normal life without restriction. I am so grateful to Dr. Helfet and his outstanding team, especially his PA Ethan Jensen. I could not be more pleased with my results!
