My hip felt like it was dislocating when I walked. Sometimes, there was no pain or feeling of dislocation and I could walk for blocks without pain. Other times, I couldn't walk for half a block without pain and feeling that I might fall at any minute. I had heard many good things about HSS from friends and neighbors. At least 3 people in my building saw my HSS bag and told me how happy they had been with their surgeries at HSS. So, I found Dr. McLawhorn and made an appointment. I was impressed by his professionalism and by his patience in answering all my questions. When I left his office, I felt confident that my anterior hip replacement surgery with Dr. McLawhorn was a good choice. The pre-surgical appointments at HSS were very well coordinated, all on one day. The surgery and the hospital were flawless. I was walking in my room a few hours after surgery. Amazing! I left the hospital the next day and my hip and my walking improved every day. I can do everything that I've always done - walking a few miles every day, golfing, and swimming. I am planning 2 weeks in Switzerland where I'll be doing the same hikes that I did 10 years ago. If you are doubtful about the surgery, don't hesitate. It's a life changer. I forgot to mention pain.
