I had been experiencing pain in my leg and groin for as long as 3 years before I discovered that the issue was the joint and not muscular. I had used chiropractics and massage to address it; and by the time I saw Dr. Boettner there was nothing else to do but a full hip replacement. Dr. Boettner and his team made the surgery experience as great as it could possibly have been. I felt seen and heard as a person, included in the decision making process, confident in the procedure and the skill of the team. The hospital experience was equally positive. It had been 20 years since I had had an inpatient hospital experience. I don't know if all hospitals are now like HSS. If they aren't - they should be! All the staff were wonderfully supportive, upbeat and helpful in getting me back on my journey to recovery. I completed physical therapy and soon found myself back in my life with one huge change -I was pain free. You don't realize how much you adjust to having pain. When it is gone, its such a gift - I was given back my life. As a Health & Wellness Coach, Trainer and Consultant its very important for me not just to talk the talk but to walk the walk. This amazing surgery combined with the skill and care of Dr. Boettner, his team and HSS let me get back in the game and return my focus on my own well life, on my students and my clients with joy and gusto. I am back doing the things I love especially taking long walks, hiking and playing with my favorite 7 year old! I gained a new awareness of the journey from living with pain, the process of surgery and reclaiming one's life - and great appreciation for the technology, skills and the dedicated physicians like Dr. Boettner available to people like me!
