Colby Lewis

I am a pitcher for the Texas Rangers. After several years of moderate success in the Major Leagues, I signed with a Japanese club, and over a two-season span, everything came together for me. The success followed me back to the US, and with the Rangers in 2010, I pitched my first-ever complete game, became the first pitcher to win a post-season game in the franchise’s history and pitched the game that advanced the Rangers to our first-ever American League Pennant.

However, all of that came to a screeching halt in 2013 when I was having a lot of pain in my hip. I learned from the team doctors that I had bone spurs and would require hip resurfacing surgery. After consulting with Rangers team physicians and other experts in the field, the consensus was for me to see Dr. Edwin Su at Hospital for Special Surgery.

I really didn’t know whether I’d ever pitch again, but I met Dr. Su and immediately knew I had come to the right place. We talked not only about the surgery, but about how I would get back to pitching at the Major League level. On August 22, 2013, he performed an extremely successful surgery and on April 14, 2014 I was back on the mound as the first MLB pitcher to return to the field after hip resurfacing surgery! I owe Dr. Su and all of the staff at HSS all the gratitude in the world for getting me back to the game that I love.
