For years I suffered with hip osteoarthritis and hip pain. In June 2023, the pain got so bad I could hardly walk 2 city blocks.

Upon consultation with my HSS physician (Dr. Alberto Carli), I finally decided to have a hip replacement. Needless to say, I was scared at what a hip replacement meant and how I would recover.

My experience at HSS was much better than I expected. From the check-in process to discharge, I was very impressed with the level of compassion and care given by every team at HSS.

So now about my hip replacement surgery. Obviously, I was extremely happy when I woke up in the recovery room and was advised by my surgeon that the surgery had gone well. I was able to get out of bed the next morning and walk (although my lower leg was still a little numb). Dr. Carli visited me that morning, gave me a photo of my new hip, and briefed me on what he had done in surgery, and gave me some dos and don'ts for the coming month. I was discharged later that afternoon.

I had very little to no pain from the day of the surgery until my 5 week follow up appointment. At about weeks 4 I was walking around my neighborhood (without a cane), distances that I could not walk prior to surgery. I am still amazed at how quickly the wound healed, and how quickly I was able to move around post surgery (first day with a walker, 2 day with a cane, about week 3.5 without a cane).

Thank you Dr. Carli for the awesome job you did. Thank you for giving me back my mobility.

I am still amazed at how smooth everything went, and the professionalism of the staff at HSS (office staff, reception, nursing, medical) - I love you guys! 10 out of 10 to everyone. There is a reason HSS is the #1 hospital in the US for orthopedics.
