As an orthopedic surgeon myself, I knew what I wanted for my hip replacement. I came to HSS from Virginia to specifically see Dr. McLawhorn. He is one of the brightest young minds in orthopedics and I knew he would recommend the best treatment for me. He also has the experience of doing over 500 replacements a year. I wanted a surgeon who utilizes the latest technology, robotic assisted replacement, that improves the accuracy of the surgery. I wanted an anterior approach as I’ve personally seen the quicker recovery, decreased pain and lower risk of dislocation. I wanted surgery at a location with the lowest infection rate; which is HSS. I also wanted the surgery as an outpatient. Dr. McLawhorn met all of my requirements. An added bonus is that he is a nice person who took the time to answer all my questions.

My recovery has been outstanding. I did not require narcotics. Outpatient recovery at home was not difficult. I was back in the operating room and seeing my own patients 2 weeks after my surgery and have been walking without pain. As an orthopedic surgery “insider”, I give Dr. McLawhorn and HSS my highest recommendation.
