Hip Pain Causes, Conditions and Treatments
As a professional dancer I tend to minimize and push through pain, and for years I thought all the popping and grinding in my hips was just a normal product of dancing. It didn’t occur to me that something was wrong until about a year and a half ago when I just flat out couldn’t dance anymore without ripping pain.
The first doctor I saw told me that I had tendinitis and needed to stop dancing so much, and the next doctor I saw told me that I had a congenital deformity of my femurs, femoral retroversion, that would soon wreck my hips unless I gave up dancing or pursued what sounded like a pretty intense surgery. He referred me to Dr. S. Robert Rozbruch at HSS, and I will forever be thankful that he did!!
Before meeting Dr. Rozbruch, I was terrified that my dancing days were over. Today I am a little over a year post-op femoral osteotomy and hip arthroscopy and feeling fantastic! I am back to dancing full out with no pain or restrictions and have confidence that I will be doing so for a very long time. The surgery I had seems like a scary one, but Dr. Rozbruch's confidence, kindness, and extensive experience made me feel so calm and comfortable throughout the entire experience.
