My very active lifestyle came to an abrupt and painful halt last year. I went from working out six days a week and enjoying very active travels to being hunched over with pain from my waist to my knees. I could not sit, stand or walk for more than 10 minutes. The onset of terrible pain was so sudden I thought I had contracted Lyme Disease. When I sought treatment, tests revealed I had severe osteoarthritis in both hips. I knew HSS had been highly rated for years as the best place for hip replacement. Originally I thought I would have to wait six months between the surgeries but I bounced back so quickly from the first, I was able to get the other hip done in under three months and had no post-surgical pain from either procedure. Three months after the second surgery, I was back to traveling to London to cheer for my husband's marathon run, then visiting the neolithic, Viking, medieval and WWII historical sites in the Orkney, Shetland and Faroe Islands and Iceland. And now that we are back home, I am back to working out 6 days a week again - pain free!
