Patient Story of: Margaret Stern

I was born with a dislocated hip. As a young child I spent 2 years in body casts. I never had surgery to correct this. When I was 48 the pain was so severe I knew I needed to do something. I visited 2 orthopedic surgeons. They both agreed they did not know if they could make me better after surgery as the standard prostheses would not fit me as I had no hip socket. Then I found HSS and Dr. Figgie. He assured me he could correct my problem with a custom made prostheses. That was 23 years ago and my hip is still going strong. I have been able to walk and ride a bike and do things I never could do even as a child. I am very thankful I found the right doctor and the right hospital.
