Osteoarthritis Translational Research Laboratory
Our laboratory conducts osteoarthritis-centered studies and clinical trials aiming to improve our understanding of the underlying disease mechanisms and identify efficacious therapeutic approaches. Our research is focused on studying altered signaling pathways that prompt joint tissue disruption in osteoarthritis (OA) in response to injurious biochemical and biomechanical stimuli. We are particularly interested in studying how stress / inflammatory signals originated locally (e.g., synovial- or infrapatellar fat pad-derived) can lead to joint structural damage and OA-associated symptoms, including pain. Ultimately, our research aims to uncover factors that can be therapeutically targeted to prevent the progression towards irreversible joint damage, and to improve outcomes following surgery.
