Clinical Challenges: Helping Patients with Moderate OA

MedPage Today featured HSS rheumatologist Theodore R. Fields, MD, FACP, in an article about treatment for moderate osteoarthritis (OA).

"Gradually we've come to know that all of these [anti-inflammatory] drugs have a heart warning," said Dr. Fields.

"They can cause high blood pressure, ankle swelling, and kidney dysfunction, and OA tends to develop in older people, who are more likely to have hypertension, kidney problems, and heart disease. In general, we're using them less than we did in the past," he added.
