Patient Story of: Sharon Levy

My podium finish was for Dr. Gulotta!

As a former Division I collegiate gymnast and Ironman triathlete, I have always pushed my body to its limits. In recent years, I transitioned to elite Aquabike racing (triathlon without the run), earning National Champion and All-American honors along the way. I also rock climb regularly, so my shoulders play a critical role in the activities I love.

About two years ago, I began experiencing pain in my right shoulder. Despite the discomfort, I managed to continue training and competing - until a fall during a World Championship race caused additional damage that ultimately required surgery. My greatest fear was that my competitive racing days were over.

When I met Dr. Gulotta, I immediately felt confident that I was in the right hands. His expertise, professionalism, and genuine compassion gave me hope at a time when I was uncertain about my future as an athlete.

Just a few weeks after the injury, Dr. Gulotta performed a rotator cuff repair, biceps tenodesis, and several additional procedures to restore my shoulder. From the beginning, he reassured me that with patience, discipline, and hard work, I could return to the sports and activities that are such an important part of my life.

The road back wasn't easy. It took 10 months of rehabilitation, countless hours rebuilding my swim and cycling fitness, and many follow-up visits with Dr. Gulotta and his team. But their guidance and support never wavered.

When I finally returned to competition, all of that hard work paid off. I earned a third-place finish at the National Championships, qualified for Team USA, and secured my spot at another World Championship race.

Today, I'm back to swimming, cycling, racing, rock climbing, and even doing handstands. Most importantly, I'm back to living the active, competitive life I love.

Dr. Gulotta didn't just repair my shoulder - he gave me the opportunity to pursue my goals again. Every race, every climb, and every podium finish is a testament to the exceptional care he provided. For that, I am incredibly grateful.
