About Dr. Kopp

Dr. Sandra L. Kopp is an attending anesthesiologist at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) and a recognized leader in regional anesthesia. She earned her medical degree from the University of Minnesota School of Medicine before completing her internship, anesthesiology residency, and regional anesthesiology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Prior to joining HSS, Dr. Kopp served on the Mayo Clinic staff for over two decades, ultimately retiring as a Professor Emeritus. She is the President-Elect of the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine (ASRA) and will assume the presidency in the spring of 2027. Her specialized clinical and research interests include regional anesthesia and analgesia for orthopedic surgery, anticoagulation, and peripheral nerve injury.

Research

My research interests include perioperative management of orthopedic patients, focusing on regional anesthesia, anticoagulation, and preexisting neurologic injury.
