Dr. Laura Schenkel is an Attending Physician at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS). She is board certified in Emergency Medicine as well as fellowship-trained and board certified in Sports Medicine.
She completed her undergraduate training at the University of Michigan, majoring in Kinesiology and Movement Science. She received her medical degree from Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine New York and proceeded to complete an Emergency Medicine Residency at Stony Brook University Hospital. She finished her training at Northwell/Nuvance Sports Medicine Fellowship Program at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
While in fellowship, Dr. Schenkel served as an assistant Team Physician for the Hudson Valley Renegades Professional Minor League Baseball team, an affiliate of the New York Yankees, Professional Women's Hockey League New York, Kingston Stockade Semi-Professional Soccer, Pace University Football, as well as Mahopac and Arlington High School Football. She also served as an assistant physician in the sports medicine clinic at Vassar College. She was previously employed as a Primary Care Sports Medicine physician at an orthopedic walk in facility in Fairfield, CT. She also participated in game coverage for the Bridgeport Islanders, Fairfield University and Sacred Heart University.
Dr. Schenkel enjoys working with patients of all ages as well as athletes, active individuals, or people looking to improve their daily function. She believes in taking a comprehensive approach to health, focusing not only on treatment, but also on overall wellness, mobility, and prevention.
Dr. Schenkel has many interests including basketball, golf and skiing. She also enjoys fishing, reading, and traveling.
