About Dr. Coxe
Dr. Francesca Coxe is a fellowship-trained hip and knee replacement surgeon at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) with special expertise in partial knee replacement, total hip and knee replacement, and complex revision procedures.
Dr. Coxe takes a personalized approach to care, working closely with each patient to understand their goals and supporting them from preoperative planning through recovery. She is committed to delivering exceptional outcomes with a focus on advanced technology, safety, rapid recovery, and helping patients return confidently to the activities they enjoy.
Dr. Coxe earned her undergraduate degree cum laude with distinction from Yale University before attending Weill Cornell Medicine, where she was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and received the T. Campbell Thompson Prize for Excellence in Orthopedic Surgery. She completed her orthopedic surgery residency at HSS. During her training, she traveled internationally to England to visit other world leaders in joint replacement, gaining specialized experience in robotic total hip and knee arthroplasty as well as minimally invasive surgery. She then completed an Adult Reconstruction and Joint Replacement Fellowship at HSS, where she was appointed Co-Chief Fellow for the hospital-wide fellowship programs and received the HSS Research Excellence Award for the Adult Reconstruction and Joint Replacement Service.
Committed to advancing the field through innovation in surgical techniques, research, and perioperative patient care, Dr. Coxe has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications. Her research focuses on improving patient outcomes and recoveries following joint replacement surgery. Dr. Coxe is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), and the Eastern Orthopedic Association (EOA)

Dr. Coxe's research focuses on functional outcomes and implant positioning in primary and revision hip and knee replacement, with particular interest in patient recovery experience and component accuracy. She performs clinical research in these areas to study how surgical approach, navigation technology, and perioperative optimization influence patients' early recovery, expectations, and long-term outcomes after total joint arthroplasty.
