Fractures of the Hand and Fingers
I received excellent care from Dr. Fufa and her staff, and the team at HSS ASC of Manhattan made surgery as smooth a process as I could have hoped for.
In October 2025, I injured my right middle finger trying to make a tackle during a rugby game. I could not move the finger at all. As a sports medicine physician, my first thought was that I had ruptured my flexor tendon. X-rays showed something different – a complex displaced fracture with tendon involvement.
I reached out to the office of Dr. Duretti Fufa right away. Being a physician myself, it was a very different experience to be the patient rather than the doctor. Every person I encountered along the way made that transition easier. I received excellent care from Dr. Fufa and her staff, and the team at HSS ASC of Manhattan made surgery as smooth a process as I could have hoped for.
Afterward, I worked with an outstanding team of hand therapists. With their help and the exceptional care of Dr. Fufa, I regained full motion and strength in my finger.
I returned to playing rugby in March 2026. This August, I was even able to join my team for the Bingham Cup, an international rugby tournament held in Brisbane, Australia.
