My journey to shoulder recovery was far more than a medical procedure - it was a story of perseverance, collaboration, and exceptional care at HSS.

It began with Dr. Ayoosh Pareek, whose thoughtful evaluation set the course for my treatment. He initially recommended physical therapy, introducing me to Vincent “Vinnie” Luppino. For months, Vinnie and I worked through a wide range of exercises, determined to identify the source of my pain. Through his expertise, patience, and persistence, we were eventually able to pinpoint the specific movement that was triggering my shoulder symptoms.

When conservative treatment reached its limits, Dr. Pareek coordinated the next step in my care by referring me to Dr. Krina Vyas for a sonogram-guided cortisone injection. The injection provided meaningful relief for several weeks, but unfortunately the pain eventually returned. Throughout that period, Vinnie remained a constant source of encouragement and support, always demonstrating genuine concern for my recovery and long-term well-being.

The turning point came when Dr. Pareek ordered an MRI. The findings were complex, but they led to one of the most important decisions in my treatment journey: referring me to a specialist. That referral brought me to Dr. Tony Wanich and his physician assistant, Emily Smith.

I had been dreading the possibility of a total shoulder replacement, so it was an enormous relief when Dr. Wanich explained that my cartilage remained healthy enough to avoid such a major procedure. Instead, we could focus on repairing the underlying problem. From our first meeting, he inspired confidence through his expertise, clear communication, and thoughtful approach to care.

The surgery was a success, and the quality of care I received from both Dr. Wanich and Emily was outstanding. Remarkably, I could feel a difference almost immediately. From the moment I woke up after surgery, my shoulder felt better, and that improvement has continued steadily over the past four months.

The final chapter of my recovery belonged to the rehabilitation team. Vinnie once again played a vital role, helping me regain my full range of motion in just two months, while Emily closely monitored my progress through every follow-up visit, ensuring I stayed on track and addressing any concerns along the way.

Today, I am back in the gym and performing upper-body workouts that once seemed impossible. What felt like a long and uncertain journey ultimately became a testament to the power of teamwork, expertise, and compassionate care.
