Rondae Hollis-Jefferson

After spending two years playing basketball at the University of Arizona, I declared for the 2015 NBA Draft. In June of 2015, I was selected in the first round by the Portland Trail Blazers and was traded to the Brooklyn Nets shortly thereafter.

In December 2015, as I was defending one of my teammates during a practice, I rolled my ankle. The Nets team doctor and HSS sports medicine surgeon, Dr. Martin O’Malley, diagnosed my injury as a fracture in my right ankle and told me that I was going to need surgery. As a rookie, I was frustrated when I got the news, but had faith in Dr. O’Malley and all of the staff at HSS to put me on the right path to recovery.

Following a successful surgery, the HSS team helped me develop the right rehab plan for the next two months. My routine included icing, stimulants, ultrasounds, and physical therapy exercises such as ankle flexion exercises using a resistance band.

On March 22, 2016, I made my return to the court after months of strenuous rehab. Getting back out there was one of the greatest feelings I’ve had as a professional basketball player. I am so grateful to Dr. O’Malley and all the staff at HSS for helping me through this time and so fortunate to have received the best care.
