About a month before the 2016 US Figure Skating Championships, where I was scheduled to compete in Senior Pairs, my previously nagging shoulder pain became unbearable. Initially, I was told I could not lift and nearly had to withdraw from the competition due to shoulder impingement/injury. I quickly scheduled appointments at HSS because I have relied on Dr. Metzl to treat my sports injuries for years - ever since a knee condition that other doctors told me would end my skating career 10 years ago, but Dr. Metzl got me through it. Dr. Metzl got me through this time too! Though I lost that month of training lifts, I was able to compete and lift at the competition.

By early 2017, it became clear that I would require shoulder surgery to repair a labral tear if I wanted to return to my previous level of overhead lifting. Dr. Dines performed the surgery, and after rehab, I can honestly say my shoulder is better than it has been in years! I was even able to return to lifting for a popular TV show in the UK – ITV’s “Dancing On Ice.”

I know I can count on HSS for excellent care and on Drs. Dines & Metzl to understand an athlete's goals.
