For many years, my knees had given me pain and I had been told that some of it was due to arthritis. But in 2009, the pain become very intense in my left knee, causing me to seek medical attention. I was referred to HSS and contacted Dr. Della Valle for an appointment. At the conclusion of my first appointment, I decide to move ahead with the replacement of my left knee. Dr. Della Valle explained what would be involved in the surgery and recovery process. The operation was very successful and recovery restored my ability to keep up with an active life, including returning to water skiing just 4 months after the operation. In January of 2015, I returned to see Dr. Della Valle again for the replacement of the right knee. The right knee had become very painful through 2014, and I knew from prior experience what to expect. Once again, a successful operation and recovery, which has provided me with a return to an active life. I will be retiring in 2016 at the age of 68.
