The Department of Radiology and Imaging at Hospital for Special is offering a dedicated fellowship in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound. This Fellowship represents the continued commitment of Hospital for Special Surgery to train Radiologists in the diagnostic and interventional aspects of Musculoskeletal Ultrasound.
The goal of the fellowship is to provide highly motivated radiologists with the clinical knowledge and research skills necessary for a successful academic clinical career in this field. The HSS Ultrasound Fellowship is designed to provide the participant with an ongoing, in-depth experience in clinical musculoskeletal ultrasound and research.
This fellowship will have exposure to both clinical and basic science research mentors, with a heavy emphasis on research. We encourage collaborative projects with the other imaging divisions of the Radiology Department, as well as translational research projects with other departments, with an ultimate goal of projects that are grant-funded. Performance of at least one research project is required, with presentation at the end of the Fellowship and submission of an abstract to a national Radiology, Orthopedics, or Rheumatology meeting for presentation and/ or publication.
Clinically, the Division is staffed by 6 attending Radiologists, with 8 technologists. We performed over 8,400 diagnostic studies in 2015 covering the entire musculoskeletal system, and over 7,250 interventional procedures, including injections (steroids, viscosupplemention, PRP, Botox), aspirations, and biopsies.
Eligibility requirements are similar to those of the other Radiology Fellowship Programs at HSS: American Board of Radiology Certification or Eligibility at the time of the Fellowship start date, submission of an official medical school Dean’s letter, official medical school transcript, curriculum vitae, personal statement describing the applicant’s reasons for applying, and three letters of professional reference, ideally including one from a musculoskeletal radiologist with whom the applicant has worked.
The Ultrasound Fellowship Application is available for download in both Word and PDF formats.
