A Foot Doctor who Learned at a Renaissance Man's Knee

Manhattan Express—January 28, 2016

Manhattan Express writer, Paul Schindler, shares how professionals, like Rock G. Positano, DPM, MSc, MPH, director of the Non-surgical Foot and Ankle Service at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), became inspired to pursue a career in foot and ankle treatment.

Dr. Positano explains, "My interest in the foot and the ankle came from my study of da Vinci’s anatomical drawings." Dr. Positano goes on to explain that the most important factors in the average person's quality of life are the ability to see and walk so with any surgical or non-surgical intervention, "joint preservation is key." Dr. Positano also attributes his interest in this specialty to a few of his colleagues at HSS, including Thomas P. Sculco, MD, an orthopedic surgeon, and Brian C. Halpern, MD, a non-surgical sports medicine physician.
