Are Kids Getting More Concussions Than we Realize?

CNN—June 21, 2016

CNN writer Nadia Kounang identifies that nearly a million children go to the emergency room with concussions every year, which is more than what is reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggesting that children experience concussions more than reported.

Jordan D. Metzl, MD, a primary care sports medicine physician at Hospital for Special Surgery, comments that, "The end result is this almost hysteria about this injury ... The vast majority of young athletes [conditions] resolve within less than a day and never have any problems the rest of their lives." He adds, "Concussion is a serious injury when it happens. ... For a long time in the sports medicine world, we probably didn't do nearly good enough job taking care of it."
