Is It Time for Back Surgery?

WebMD writes on when it's time to consider back surgery. While most back pain doesn't require surgery, there are signs that you should see an orthopedic surgeon.

Keep in mind that if the orthopedic surgeon does recommend surgery and you put it off, that could cause more problems.

That's especially true if your spinal cord is being compressed by a degenerative condition, said Frederico P. Girardi, MD, spine surgeon at HSS. "Your spinal cord is made of nerves, and they need oxygen and nutrients in order to function."
