Our services include scheduling and confirming medical appointments, preparing cost estimates, coordination of billing and payment arrangements, Hospital Belaire Guest Facility reservations, and arranging medical interpreters.
From the beginning, our staff will assist you in arranging a referral to the most appropriate physician for your condition. We will then work with you and your family to arrange for all appointments, services, and amenities you will need before, during, and immediately following your hospital visit.
Below is a description of the primary services we offer and provide to our international patients. These are complimentary services and are of no additional cost to HSS patients. Medical Care Arrangements
First, you should request an appointment with an HSS physician via the International Center. You can also call us directly.
Once you contact the International Center, our specially trained staff will request from you clinical information including, but not limited to, medical notes (in English) from any other physicians you may have seen, diagnostic reports and images, etc. Based on the medical information you provide, our staff will refer you to the appropriate doctor and schedule all of the necessary appointments and diagnostic studies. All appointments are confirmed via phone, fax, or email. Our staff will be in contact with you and your family to accommodate and arrange for any needed support services throughout the hospital stay.
In order to expedite your medical evaluation at HSS, you or your referring physician can send the following information found here to the International Center in advance via fax or mail.
The International Finance Team will obtain authorization for your surgery if you have insurance. If you do not have insurance, they will provide you with an estimate of surgical and treatment costs based on your particular condition and will explain each part of the estimate to you. The Finance Team will also help you manage all of the financial aspects of your visit, including coordinating payments to various providers participating in your surgical care and offering information about how to wire funds from home. International Center staff speak several languages and can serve as interpreters for you during your visit. Additionally the Hospital provides medical interpretation, as well as communication assistance and devices. You will have interpretation during your medical and related appointments to ensure you have the best clinical experience. These interpretative services are also provided free of charge. Please let us know in advance if you would like an interpreter.
The Belaire Guest Facility is conveniently located near the hospital. The accommodations offer comfortable lodging for patients and their families. Studio, one- and two-bedroom units can be combined to offer suites that can accommodate up to six guests. Each unit has a full-service kitchenette, full bath, and a living room/seating area, as well as telephone and television services. The guest facility at HSS has 24-hour security and each room has an intercom to the main lobby.
The International Center staff can also provide you with recommendations on short and long-term lodging accommodations.
There are a number of car services listed in the Neighborhood Directory you need to arrange for transportation to and from the airport, hospital and hotel. In addition to the standard black car service, we can also provide information on a specialty car service that provides assistance with baggage, security, and special needs at the airport. Please ask us for more information if you are interested in this service.
Since you are in New York City, there are also always taxis which are readily available at every airport terminal and easy to hail near the hospital!
