Department of Food & Nutrition Services

The Department of Food & Nutrition Services at Hospital for Special Surgery is committed to providing the highest quality nutritional care.

Inpatient Services

We strive to offer a variety of menus to meet the preferences and needs of our patients during their hospital stay. Menu options include vegetarian, vegan, heart-healthy, sodium-restricted, consistent carbohydrate, gluten-free and Kosher diets. Nutritional supplements are also available upon request.

Our team of nutritionists, dietetic technicians and dietary assistants are available to assist patients with any nutritional concerns. Nutritionists, in conjunction with the interdisciplinary health care team, work closely with patients to provide comprehensive nutritional care that will promote recovery. They evaluate the need for specialized diets and provide thorough education for any nutrition prescription. Dietary assistants visit patients daily to take meal orders and food service aides deliver meal trays.

Meals for patients’ guests are also available for an additional charge. Please let a member of the Food & Nutrition Services Department know if you would like a guest tray delivered to your room. Parents of pediatric patients staying at the hospital, will be provided a complimentary guest tray.
