Sports Hernia

see also Pelvis Injuries and Conditions

Sports hernia or "athletic pubalgia" is not a real hernia, where an organ bulges through the surrounding muscle or tissue. Instead, it is an injury to the front of the pelvis usually resulting from an intense twisting motion or overuse. Symptoms include pain in the pelvic area as well as the groin muscles. Surgery is not normally needed, though without proper rest and conditioning further injury could lead to an actual hernia or tearing in the abdomen and groin.
