I’m an avid skier and had my first knee surgery at 35 (I’m now 89). Over the years, I’ve had three more surgeries. At 59, I was told my only option was bilateral total knee replacement - but I didn’t want to risk losing the ability to ski. At 87, I finally decided to go ahead with the surgery. After reading every knee surgeon’s biography at HSS, I chose Dr. Ast - and that was a life-changing decision.

Just three days after the season ended at Alta, Utah, Dr. Ast replaced my left knee. Four months later, he did my right knee. By December, I had my Alta season pass and skied 25 incredible days that season. Today, I’ve completely forgotten my knees were ever replaced. Dr. Ast truly changed my life.

The entire experience with him and HSS was seamless and perfect. Thank you! This season, I’ll celebrate my 90th birthday on the slopes.
