I came to HSS to see a hip and knee surgeon for a second opinion regarding whether or not to have a knee replacement. I was 36 years old and suffering from avascular necrosis due to being on steroids for an autoimmune disease. I had undergone surgery earlier in the year to repair broken cartilage in my knee. Unfortunately, the bone disease was too far gone and my knee was quickly deteriorating. I was looking for a straightforward, honest answer and that is exactly what he gave me. He explained all possible treatments and answered all of my questions and concerns in a heartfelt and genuine way. Together, we decided a full knee replacement was best. Exactly three months after the surgery I could not believe how much better my knee felt and the quality of life I regained.

I am a photographer and at times my job can be physically demanding, standing all day, squatting and kneeling down. I am back to work with no pain and my new knee is certainly not slowing me down. I am thrilled with how my knee replacement turned out, the great comfort and care I received from HSS and look forward to living decades with a fully functioning knee!
