Robin Missailidis

I am a lifelong athlete who lives in Encinitas, California. I played softball, basketball, soccer and ran track as a youth. After high school I played tennis on our NCAA college team at University of California San Diego in 1983. After graduating from college I took up cycling, swimming, running and competed in triathlons from 1988-1993.

I married George in 1990 and have two children. When our boys were toddlers, I took up indoor cycling in 1995 and loved it. I began teaching at our local YMCA in 1997. I've taught both indoors and outdoors cycling for 19 years. In 2006 I began cycling from San Francisco to Los Angeles with the Arthritis Foundation on the California Coast Classic Bike Ride.

I was told in 2010 (after sudden onset knee pain during a 75 mile training ride) that I would need knee replacement. I doubted it so much that I tried every therapy known to medicine including hyaluronic acid, cortisone, physical therapy, PRP, chiropractics,  massage, you name it, I tired it. I didn't believe I needed knee replacement because I was so young. This news was devastating to a life long athlete.

The final straw was the PRP series. It was 2014 and I was walking through an airport and in so much pain that I knew it was time. That's when I started my search.

My local physician spoke of HSS being the number one orthopedic hospital. I went home and did hours of research. My husband walked in the door that afternoon and I told him that I found my physician. His name is Dr. David Mayman and he is in NYC. This year I will ride my bike from SF to LA again, thanks to Dr. Mayman.
