After suffering for years with severe back pain due to scoliosis and exhausting all non surgical options, I began to consider surgery. After meeting with several spine specialists, I was told that they could do nothing for me other than prescribe pain medications. I was not willing to give up my active lifestyle of horseback riding, skiing and tennis so I continued to search for a way to alleviate my back pain. My daughter spoke to a friend of hers, who is a physician assistant at Hospital for Special Surgery. She referred me to Dr. Han Jo Kim. I met with Dr. Kim and discussed my expectations and concerns. Dr. Kim felt that I was a good candidate for an 8 level spinal fusion. I had my surgery done in November of 2013. The first several months were challenging, but a year later I was back to riding my horse, playing tennis and snow skiing. Dr. Kim was there for me throughout the entire journey and I highly recommend him and HSS. Thank you, Dr. Kim, for getting me "back on the horse"!
