Sarah Tryon, NP

Practice Area: Private Practice (Physician Offices)

Sarah Tryon is a board certified family nurse practitioner and works with Beth Shubin Stein, MD, and Sabrina Strickland, MD, in the Women’s Sports Medicine Center and the Patellofemoral Center at Hospital for Special Surgery.  Prior to her current role, she worked as an RN at HSS while completing her graduate degree at Columbia University.  Her current experience as an outpatient nurse practitioner, combined with her past experience as an inpatient nurse, gives her unique insight into the patient experience at HSS.  She works collaboratively with both surgeons to provide preoperative education and postoperative care.  Additionally, she manages and treats all non-operative conditions in the practice, including injection procedures.  Sarah specializes in knee and shoulder conditions, as well as elbow and ankle injuries.

Sarah is clinically involved with the ongoing research in both the Women’s Sports Medicine Center and the Patellofemoral Center.  Current research projects include: Prevalence of Vitamin D Insufficiency and Deficiency in Female Patients with Various Musculoskeletal Complaints, an Investigation of ReNu™ Knee Injection: Monitoring the Response of Knee Function and Pain in Patients with Osteoarthritis, Pediatric and Adolescent Patellofemoral Instability, Effectiveness of Hyaluronic Acid in Young Patients with Tibiofemoral and/or Patellofemoral Osteoarthritis, Incidence of Deep Venous Thrombosis following Tibial Tubercle Osteotomy, and MPFL Reconstruction for Recurrent Patellofemoral Instability: Rates of Failure vs. Radiographic Parameters.  Prior to her nursing career, Sarah also had the privilege to publish original research.  Her project studied the effect of dietary fat on the expression of appetite regulating hormones in zebrafish and was accepted to the annual meeting of experimental biology in 2011.

Sarah earned her Bachelor of Science at University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, VA, where she studied biology.  Additionally, she played varsity soccer all four years of her collegiate career, serving as captain beginning her sophomore year.  During her senior year she was named UMW Female Scholar Athlete.  Sarah then moved to New York to start her nursing career, studying at Columbia University.  She completed her BSN and went on to complete her MSN.  At graduation, she was recognized with the CAPNA award, a prestigious recognition awarded to one student in the family nurse practitioner program who best demonstrates excellence in academics, clinical proficiency, and empathy with patients.

Sarah grew up in Fairfax Station, VA with two sisters, both of whom also played soccer.  She has been living in NYC for over five years now and loves the energy of the city.  She continues to play soccer and enjoys hiking, biking, and exploring the city and its surrounding areas with her husband.
