Limb Salvage with Bone Transport for Tibia Bone Defect

Nicholas sustained a severe open fracture with bone loss (8 cm) and soft-tissue loss after a motorcycle accident.

Post-Op

He had a free flap for soft-tissue coverage and then underwent bone transport. We grew 8 cm of new bone from his proximal tibia to fill in the defect.

Follow-up

X-rays show that the bone healed well. This technique was used to save Nick's leg and avoid an amputation.
