He has surgically treated over 9,000 patients with numerous hip and knee conditions ranging from straightforward procedures to complex revision surgery of hip and knee replacements. Dr. Gonzalez Della Valle is aware of his patients’ wide range of expectations for function and activity following surgery. "Patients undergoing joint replacement surgery today are not the same as those who underwent surgery 20 years ago," he says. "Today, the enthusiastic baby boomers, post-baby boomers and young patients who receive a joint replacement expect a short hospital stay, a fast recovery, and a prompt return to their regular activities and active lifestyles." Dr. Gonzalez Della Valle combines classic concepts of total joint replacement surgery with the newest techniques, technologies and materials, and adapts the surgery to meet each patient’s realistic demands. His recommendations for treatment are based on a thorough physical examination and discussion with the patient, a deep understanding of the classic and newest surgical techniques, and a robust body of research, which includes over 150 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters authored by him.
Most of his patients are active and motivated individuals who are disabled by joint pain and who want to get back to having an active lifestyle. “I encourage my patients to go back to being active, practicing sports, traveling, and enjoying their leisure time after surgery, once they are pain free,” he says.
Dr. Gonzalez Della Valle graduated with honors from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. He trained in prestigious institutions in North and South America including Hospital for Special Surgery and the Italian Hospital in Buenos Aires. He also received numerous awards including the prestigious Acta Orthopaedica Scandinavica Research Award; the Sir John Charnley Award, which is awarded by the American Hip Society; and the Nicholas Andry Award, which is awarded by the American Association of Bone and Joint Surgeons. He is a spokesperson for the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons where he provides orthopedic expertise on behalf of the AAOS.

I strive to provide sensitive, personalized and efficient care to patients with painful hips and knees. Please meet my team:
Hope is my office manager and surgical coordinator. She has been working in the medical field since 1996 and joined my practice in 2012. She oversees all office functions and stages of the pre-surgical appointments. She will discuss surgical dates with you, pre-authorize your surgery, and book the appointments for the pre-admission tests that take place at HSS a few weeks prior to surgery. Both Hope and Rosemary will help you with your administrative needs, insurance authorization, and patient education.
Rosemary has been my medical secretary and assistant for many years. She is our office coordinator specializing in scheduling the appointment calendar for consults and follow up appointments for domestic and international patients. For the appointments, Rosemary will also order xrays and special studies when needed. She has extensive knowledge on the different insurance plans for which I am a provider and she will verify your benefits prior to your visit. Rosemary and I are also fluent in Spanish.
Maureen Barlow, PA-C
Maureen is our Physician Assistant. She completed her training in Pittsburgh, PA where she also worked in the Orthopaedic Surgery department at UPMC. Maureen is my assistant in the office and in the operating room. While I strive to develop a personalized relationship with all my patients, Maureen is an extension of my care. You will see and speak with her during your initial visit and follow up appointments. In clinic, Maureen also can provide continuity of care to patients who are not ready for surgery. While in the hospital, Maureen or I will see you to make sure that your recovery is uneventful. Both of us can answer medical questions pertinent to your current condition, surgery and post-operative care. Patients may also contact Maureen if they need a medication or physical therapy prescription.
