The Integrative Care Center (ICC) offers treatment for rheumatic and musculoskeletal conditions, including osteoarthritis, back/neck pain, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, sports injuries, and postoperative care, as well as preventive health services.
The physical therapy staff at the Integrative Care Center provides a unique approach to rehabilitative services. We utilize a combination of movement analysis, manual techniques, and therapeutic exercise to empower the individual and restore function. Therapeutic exercise describes a variety of physical activities intended to help restore and maintain strength, flexibility, endurance, and balance. Our staff has an extensive knowledge of integrating complementary approaches into your rehabilitation program. We care for patients with a full spectrum of musculoskeletal injuries, including osteoarthritis, back/neck pain, osteoporosis, sports injuries and post-operative care.
Pilates-based exercise, visualization and yoga techniques can be incorporated into individualized treatment plans. Through a team approach that focuses on the patient’s goals, our rehab staff works closely with your physician as well as complementary care providers to enhance your recovery process.
The physiatrists at HSS specialize in nonsurgical treatments of spinal and sports-related injuries, as well as diagnostic studies to determine whether patients have nerve or muscular disorders such as lumbar or cervical radiculopathy, carpal tunnel syndrome, and other debilitating conditions.
Pain from a lingering sports injury, a hip or knee replacement surgery, a traumatic event, or a chronic condition can take a toll on your quality of life. Our multi-faceted approach to pain management at HSS puts the patient first and focuses on personalizing your care and achieving the best solution.
The Pilates Studio at the ICC offers a unique experience to all its clients. Each client receives authentic Pilates instruction by a highly qualified instructor with experience working specifically with a rehabilitative population. Patients transitioning from therapy to Pilates are put to ease by our safe and friendly environment. Our instructors work with each client in collaboration with the referring MD/PT as needed. Finally, a one-of-a-kind exercise program will be designed to facilitate the client in achieving their goals.
The Pilates Method focuses on developing core strength, increasing flexibility and improving posture. It is extremely adaptable. For example, a program at the Integrative Care Center can be designed for a patient with a hip replacement but can also be geared to give even the most serious of athletes an efficient, challenging workout. Since Pilates is a gentle, low impact form of exercise with an emphasis on control, it is also an ideal choice for those recovering from injury, orthopedic surgery, chronic pain (especially lower back), scoliosis and osteoporosis among other conditions.
