HSS Receives Largest OREF Grant in History

Orthopedics This Week—December 28, 2017

Orthopedics This Week reported that HSS received a grant from the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF). The grant is the largest in OREF history, and will fund a clinical trial to determine if stem cell therapy can improve outcomes for those with rotator cuff tears.

The research team is led by HSS sports medicine surgeon Scott A. Rodeo, MD and associate scientist Christopher Mendias, PhD, ATC.

Dr. Mendias told OTW, "now that we are moving into the phase II clinical trial, our first steps will be to finalize regulatory approvals. Then, we will be able to begin recruiting subjects into the study which is the most exciting part."
