Medpage Today writer Diana Swift reports on recommendations regarding reproductive health and family planning for women with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and/or antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) both of which are conditions that impact women of childbearing age.
According to Jane E. Salmon, MD, a rheumatologist at Hospital for Special Surgery who specializes in treatment of lupus in women, "These recommendations are an opportunity to change attitudes, provide guidance on intervention, and perhaps stimulate rheumatologists to stratify patients by risk and make sure high-risk patients are monitored by someone with expertise in this area."
