Mark C. Drakos, MD


Dr. Mark Drakos is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in disorders of the foot and ankle as well as sports related injuries. He did his undergraduate work in biomedical engineering at Harvard University where he was also a four-year letter winner and wide receiver for the varsity football team. He received his medical degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook where he was elected a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society signifying graduation within the top 15% of his class.

Dr. Drakos completed his orthopedic training at Hospital for Special Surgery. Here, he received several grants for his research as well as the Jean McDaniel Award for the chief resident who best exemplifies professional skill, dedication to the ethics of medicine and commitment to resident education. He also received the Lewis Clark Wagner Award for excellence in orthopedic surgery research. Following residency he did a sports medicine fellowship at Hospital for Special Surgery where he assisted the medical team for the New York Giants. He followed that with a second fellowship in foot and ankle surgery at Brown University, one of the busiest trauma centers in the Northeast.

Dr. Drakos is the author of over 50 peer review articles, book chapters and presentations involving orthopedics. Dr. Drakos has directly provided care for a number of high school, collegiate, professional, and Olympic athletes. His research has been presented at regional, national and international meetings. His work on the effect of the shoe surface interface on ACL injuries received a regional Orthopedics Research and Education Foundation (OREF) Award and national media recognition. He is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS), the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) and the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA). Dr. Drakos’ goal is to provide patients with the best medical care possible using all the latest techniques and current research available.
