Dr. Michael Alexiades concentrates on orthopedic surgery of the hip, knee, shoulder and elbow, including arthroscopic surgery for each of those joints, joint-sparing surgery and joint replacement. He takes a minimally invasive approach whenever it will give the best result for the patient. He is an early adopter of the Mini Anterior technique in hip replacement surgery, in which no muscles are cut and the patient can generally go home in a day or two. He is also an early adopter of partial knee replacement which offers faster recovery in selected patients.
Since completing his training in 1989, Dr. Alexiades has been active in the development of hip and knee implant design and instrumentation, including the Biomet Vision Hip system and Biomet knee systems. Dr. Alexiades also has a keen interest in the education and training of residents and fellows, and is an examiner for the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, with responsibility for the education and certification of orthopedic surgeons.
Dr. Alexiades is a great supporter of law enforcement and its personnel. He is active in New York’s Finest Foundation, chairs the NYPD Article II Medical Board and is Chief Surgeon for the NY State Troopers Association. He is the chairman of physical fitness at the world renowned New York Athletic Club. He also reviews cases for the Office of Professional Medical Conduct.
