Grade 1 (present), Marked: A thick layer of fibrin overlies the synovial lining, which is thickened but has blurred edges. Grade 2 inflammation is present in the subjacent synovial tissue.

Grade 1 (present), Example 1: A large giant cell containing many centrally located nuclei is present in the center at the base of this thickened lining layer; a small giant cell is present to the immediate upper right of the first giant cell.
