Yankees phenom James Kaprielian getting Tommy John

New York Post—April 14, 2017

New York Post reports that New York Yankees pitcher James Kaprielian will undergo Tommy John surgery.

In a statement released by the Yankees, Kaprielian had a right flexor strain last year which did not require surgery, but recently has had elbow pain.

HSS sports medicine surgeon Joshua S. Dines, MD has not examined Kaprielian, but provided insight on this type of injury. "Once you have an injury like that [flexor tendon issue] to the elbow and you continue to pitch, the ligament could be exposed. You need either the tendon or the ligament to be working at full potential, otherwise you might have a situation like this."
