Women’s Health featured HSS primary care sports medicine physician Jordan D. Metzl, MD, in an article about treatment for shin splints.

According to Dr. Metzl, shin splints could be caused by low bone density or incorrect running mechanics.

Dr. Metzl recommended taking a break from running and performing low-impact exercises for two weeks if you experience shin splints.
