The Washington Times featured HSS hand and upper extremity surgeon Scott W. Wolfe, MD, in an article about the efficacy of nerve transfer surgery for patients with acute flaccid myelitis (AFM).

The goal of the surgery is to restore movement in the arms and legs of children with the disease.

"You have to be very creative in terms of using even remaining nerves and muscles that are there… It's a bit of an art and no two cases are going to be the same and you use what you can," said Dr. Wolfe.

The article referenced a study by Dr. Wolfe who successfully performed nerve transfer surgery on two patients with AFM.
