Silver Sneakers featured HSS sports dietitian and sports performance specialist Jason Machowsky RD, CSSD, RCEP, CSCS, in an article about upper body exercises for older adults.

"We go through life and have to be able to push things and pull things. From opening a door to lifting grocery bags… upper body strength gives us the ability to do these daily activities," said Machowsky.

When selecting an exercise, Machowsky explained that "the most important thing is that you feel the exercise in the right places [your chest, arms, and core] and you’re lifting to moderate fatigue."
