Hospital for Special Surgery CEO Louis Shapiro on going global, healthcare consolidation and more

Becker's Hospital Review—December 28, 2016

Becker's Hospital Review's Heather Punke spoke with Louis A. Shapiro, president and CEO of HSS, about global strategy and why bigger isn't always better.

When asked about the international initiative, Mr. Shapiro notes "what we realized is we have figured out how to create significant value in our area of specialty. Mr. Shapiro also talks about the role of Catherine MacLean, MD, PhD, as chief value medical officer.  "A chief value officer is someone who has a unique expertise to look at our diseases more holistically across an episode of care in a very sophisticated way. Dr. MacLean leads multidisciplinary teams to actually help us take care of that disease or condition better."
