Runner’s World featured Rock G. Positano, DPM, MSc, MPH, Director of the Non-surgical Foot and Ankle Service at HSS, in an article about summer sandals to wear for proper foot support. Dr. Positano said the basic flip flop "provides minimal stability and orthopedic support of the arch, heel and forefoot".
"The feet are the body’s major shock absorbing system, so without supportive shoes, this can exacerbate knee, hip, and low back pain," he added.
